When television first came on the scene, Jackie Gleason was regarded as one of the greatest performers of the day. Among his most enduring works is the comedy The Honeymooners, which ran for 39 episodes from 1955 to 1956 and is widely considered a classic of the medium, with Rolling Stone recently ranking it as one of the Top 10 comedies of all time. In those years, Gleason was also involved in a slew of other television endeavors, including presenting the immensely famous variety show The Jackie Gleason Show, which was shown on ABC.
